4K videoprojector, which model to choose and at what price?

New 4K videoprojector is the must for big picture enthusiasts. Please note, your sources must then be also in 4k, which is not always the case especially at Netflix…

For small budgets, the first projectors “4K” from 1166 € (excl.taxes) are projectors that simulate a 4K image by “wobulation”, that is to say by ultra fast display of a Full HD image shifted by a few pixels . These projectors give the illusion of a 4K image and the result is very good. Below this budget already very low, attention to the contrast ratio of projectors and Ultra Short Focales too attractive: many professionals do not consider these products as good projectors. If your budget is small, prefer FULL HD projectors. They will give you an excellent image for a much more attractive price, especially if your sources are also in FULL HD (1080p), which remains the current standard box TV for example.

The true native 4K projectors at Sony are available from around € 4800, because they are projectors with truly 4K native resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels.

This entry-level 4K videoprojector uses wobulation to simulate a 4K image. It displays 4 fast Full HD images offset from each other at 240 Hz to simulate a 4K image. The six-segment chromatic wheel (RVBRVB) limits without completely eliminating the famous “rainbow” effect that forms at the level of luminous objects against a dark background. The Otoma UHD350X displays the image with a delay “input lag” of 75 ms, to discourage gamers. In short, a projector that gives a satisfactory 4K image to start at a low price. 25dB, 5.2Kg

BenQ W2700 – 1282 € excl.taxes

An entry-level 4K UHD video projector at BenQ, it simulates a 4K image by projecting a high-speed FULL HD image. Its all-glass optical unit brings additional quality to the image. The fluidity of the projected image is good, even in the travelings. The actual brightness is lower than announced, the contrast is acceptable. Here is the new high-end 4K videoprojector from BenQ, with UHD image 4K by wobulation. The brightness is better thanks to its 1800lumens, and benQ announces a contrast to 50.000: 1. This top-of-the-line projector has a 60% vertical and 23% horizontal correction that will make it easy to install in your room. 3D included. Epson 9400W with wireless connection -2666 € excl.taxes

Excellent LCD projector with 4K simulation by “wobulation”. This beautiful Epson projector quickly displays 2 Full HD images offset from each other half a diagonal pixel to simulate the rendering of a 4K image. This technique, called “Enhancement 4K”  doubles the number of pixels. You will have about 4 million pixels against 2 million usually in FULL HD, so double the standard 1080p resolution and half of a native 4K resolution. Its glass optics are of high quality in glass and its display time is excellent for video games (23ms). The blacks in the picture, contrast and brightness are good. The fluidity in 4k is pretty good. 2600 lumens, contrast 1.200.000: 1, 20/24 dB, 3D included, lamp 5000H (eco), attention to the weight 11Kg. The “real” 4K videoprojector, less than 5000 €. This Sony projector can enjoy a true 4K image reference. Obviously the price corresponds to this image quality. The sharpness is very good, the colors perfect, the contrast excellent. The announced brightness is exact, the perfect fluidity even in the travelings. Its projection ratio makes it easy to place it in your room from near or far. The budget is the result of a “real” native 4K projector. Our advice: choose a room that makes a good deal of darkness.
